About the Cavapoo

Temperament: velcro in the best way

Cavaliers were bred for centuries to be companions and nothing else, and Cavapoos inherit that single-mindedness. They are soft dogs — sensitive to tone, quick to forgive, uninterested in conflict with other dogs or people. Harsh corrections do not work on a Cavapoo; they just worry them.

The flip side of that devotion is that Cavapoos are among the breeds most prone to separation anxiety. If your household is empty ten hours a day, this is not the dog. If someone is usually home, or the dog can come with you, you will not find a more contented companion.

Energy: the apartment-friendly doodle

Cavapoos need meaningfully less exercise than a Goldendoodle — two decent walks and some indoor play generally does it. They will happily hike with you on a Saturday, but they will not pester you for a job on a Tuesday. That balance is why they suit first-time owners, seniors and small homes so well.

Health: what the Cavalier side means

The Cavalier breed carries real, well-documented risks — mitral valve disease and syringomyelia in particular. Crossing to a Poodle widens the gene pool and helps, but it does not erase inherited risk, and any breeder who tells you otherwise is not being straight with you.

What matters is that the parent dogs are screened, especially cardiac clearances on the Cavalier side, and that you keep up with annual vet checks so anything that does appear is caught early. We will talk you through exactly what our parent dogs have been tested for.

All puppy FAQs

Cavapoo puppies typically run $2,000–$2,800 from breeders who health test their parent dogs. Our current Cavapoos are priced on their individual pages, with a $200 deposit to reserve.

Most Cavapoos mature between 9 and 25 lbs and stand 9–14 inches tall, depending on whether the Poodle parent was a Toy or a Miniature. We give you the expected adult range for each litter.

They are low-shedding and generally do well in allergy-sensitive homes, but no dog is completely allergen-free. Coat type varies within a litter — curlier coats tend to hold more dander in the coat rather than releasing it.

No, they are one of the quieter small breeds. Persistent barking in a Cavapoo usually points to separation anxiety rather than a noisy temperament.

They are one of the best choices. They are gentle, eager to please, forgiving of beginner mistakes, and their exercise needs are realistic for a normal working life.

For a few hours, yes, with crate training and a good routine. All-day absences are hard on them — this breed bonds intensely and is prone to separation anxiety.
