The original doodle, and still one of the best.

Cockapoo Puppies for Sale in Texas

The Cockapoo — Cocker Spaniel crossed with Poodle — has been around since the 1960s, which makes it the oldest of the doodle crosses and one of the most predictable. They are merry, sturdy little dogs with a strong desire to be involved in whatever you are doing.

About the Cockapoo

A genuinely cheerful dog

If Cavapoos are soft and Goldendoodles are eager, Cockapoos are simply merry. The Cocker Spaniel side brings a bouncy, tail-never-stops enthusiasm; the Poodle side keeps them clever and trainable. They tend to be more resilient and less clingy than a Cavapoo while still being firmly a companion dog.

Six decades of breeding means Cockapoo temperament is comparatively consistent — you know broadly what you are getting, which is not always true of newer crosses.

Ears deserve special attention

Both parent breeds have drop ears, and the Cocker side is prone to ear infections. Warm, humid, closed-off ear canals are exactly what yeast and bacteria want, and Texas summers do not help.

The fix is routine, not complicated: check ears weekly, keep the hair inside them trimmed, dry them thoroughly after swimming or baths, and see your vet at the first sign of head-shaking or odour. Owners who build this into the weekly routine rarely have trouble.

Most mature at 12–25 lbs and 10–15 inches tall, depending on the Poodle parent's size.

Very little. Like other doodles they need brushing 2–3 times a week and professional grooming every 6–8 weeks to keep the coat from matting.

Yes. They are bright, food-motivated and eager to please. Their sensitivity means positive, reward-based training works far better than corrections.

They can — both parent breeds have drop ears. Weekly ear checks, trimming the hair inside the ear, and drying ears after baths or swimming prevent the vast majority of problems.
