About the Poodle
Three sizes, one temperament
Toy, Miniature and Standard Poodles are one breed in three sizes, and the personality is remarkably consistent across all of them: clever, sensitive, playful, slightly reserved with strangers and completely devoted to their own people. Standards tend to be the calmest and most dignified; Toys and Minis are typically more animated.
The intelligence is the whole story
A Poodle will learn what you teach it and quite a lot that you did not. They work out door handles, they read your routines, and they get genuinely bored in a way that most breeds do not. Training is not optional maintenance with this breed — it is enrichment, and a Poodle without it will find its own project.
The payoff is a dog that can learn almost anything. Trick training, scent work, agility and obedience all suit them, and fifteen minutes of brain work will tire a Poodle more thoroughly than an hour of fetch.
Coat: the highest-maintenance coat we raise
A true Poodle coat is dense, curly and continuously growing. It sheds almost nothing, which is wonderful for allergies and merciless about matting — every hair the dog loses stays in the coat until you brush it out.
Plan on grooming every 4–6 weeks for life and brushing at home in between. This is a real, recurring cost, and it is the single thing new Poodle owners most often underestimate.
